This week when out tracting Sister Huang and I found this cute girl named Anita. It was close to 8pm and she was holding her 9 month old baby that was asleep in her arms when she answered the door. She was really kind and when we told her that we were from the church down the street she replied with, “Wow! Really? I have passed that church a bunch of times and have been wanting to go to it!” We went back a few days later, this last Saturday and taught her, her husband named Maleek (spell check?) and her 20 year old sister who is living with her. Anita and Maleek came to church yesterday and loved it and we’ll be seeing them again on Tuesday! They truly are prepared and I love witnessing God leading us to these prepared people! I have been praying for that specifically the last few weeks and He finally answered and lead us there 🙂
Unfortunately two gals who we had on date to get baptized on the 30th of December didn’t make it to church so we will have to postpone their baptism until January so they can come to church twice before. Sandra is one of these gals and she is amazing. The sisters taught her months ago but she moved back to Connecticut to help her aunt for 6 months. She moved back to NC a couple of weeks ago and we got a media referral for her requesting a Book of Mormon. The first time we met her, in the beginning of December she said she wants to be baptized and is ready! She is the sweetest and will be getting baptized in a few weeks! Exciting!
Something that I have been thinking about is the Savior and His healing. The Savior heals you as you need to be healed. We can see it in the Bible. He heals each person in a different way and it is done in that specific way for that person’s faith. The woman with the issue of blood just needed to exercise her faith and touch Jesus’ garment. Others needed Jesus to physically touch them to show His healing taking place such as putting his fingers into the ears of a deaf man to fix his hearing or spitting on and touching the eyes of a blind man so that he could see. A greek woman went to Jesus and He told her her daughter was healed from the possession from an evil spirit. She needed his words. Some men needed to psychically go into a river and wash themselves to cure their leprosy. Whatever the case was, He healed them in the way they needed healing. I know that He does the same for us. That is why we all have different trials and various ways of feeling relief.
The Savior has healed me as I have needed to be healed. One of the ways He has done this is by helping me ‘lose (my) life for (His) sake and the gospel’s’ Mark 8:35
It’s so true that as we look in, we decrease spiritually, but as we look out our soul is healed.
“It’s interesting, the dichotomy between healing the body and healing the soul. When we heal the body, it’s always an inward effort. We’re always paying attention to ourselves. When we heal the soul, turning inward doesn’t work. And the triage of the soul is found in turning outward to other people.” –Mormon message “Lift”
Another way he has healed me is by teaching and allowing me to apply His teachings. Whereas, before my mission I wasn’t the most teachable student, and didn’t understand how to apply certain principles.
Many times when Jesus did miracles he pleaded his healed to ‘tell no man’ But they couldn’t help themselves most of the time because of the greatness of the miracle. Now we are at a time where we CAN tell every man or woman we come in contact with and prophets of old have ‘exhorted’ us to search within ourselves to find out the truth of these things through prayer and then help our fellow brothers and sisters find this truth as well. Christ is no longer with us to preach His gospel and to do these miracles. His hand and help are in this work every day ‘ yes! but He himself isn’t. He relies on us to answer other’s prayers and to help others spiritually heal. I am so grateful to be a missionary at this time and during this season! Helping others find this beautiful truth!
Christmas is a time to reflect on and honor Christ – to pay our devotions to Him for His ultimate sacrifice for us. He literally opened the way for us to make it back home to our Father in Heaven.
Mosiah 3: 5-11 says this about our Savior,
“For behold, the time cometh, and is not far distant, that with power, the Lord Omnipotent who reigneth, who was, and is from all eternity to all eternity, shall come down from heaven among the children of men, and shall dwell in a tabernacle of clay, and shall go forth amongst men, working mighty miracles, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, causing the lame to walk, the blind to receive their sight, and the deaf to hear, and curing all manner of diseases.
6 And he shall cast out devils, or the evil spirits which dwell in the hearts of the children of men.
7 And lo, he shall suffer temptations, and pain of body, hunger, thirst, and fatigue, even more than man can suffer, except it be unto death; for behold, blood cometh from every pore, so great shall be his anguish for the wickedness and the abominations of his people.
8 And he shall be called Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning; and his mother shall be called Mary.
9 And lo, he cometh unto his own, that salvation might come unto the children of men even through faith on his name; and even after all this they shall consider him a man, and say that he hath a devil, and shall scourge him, and shall crucify him.
10 And he shall rise the third day from the dead; and behold, he standeth to judge the world; and behold, all these things are done that a righteous judgment might come upon the children of men.
11 For behold, and also his blood atoneth for the sins of those who have fallen by the transgression of Adam, who have died not knowing the will of God concerning them, or who have ignorantly sinned.”
If I could only choose one emotion to tell you how I was feeling it would be grateful. I am so grateful for Christ and His perfect life. He had the capability of sinning, but resisted all temptation. He really does know exactly how you feel. That is something I have greatly gained a testimony of. I know the Atonement is real. I have felt his Grace. I am a partaker of it! I testify in the name of Jesus Christ that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love you and know your heart.
Have a very Merry Christmas! And know that I love you!!!!
