Feliz Navidad! (Sometimes I wish I was Hispanic)

Remember Edoardo that we met at the Mexican Restaurant? HE WAS BAPTIZED THIS WEEKEND! I cannot tell you the joy that I have felt being able to see how the Gospel has transformed him and to see him enter the waters of baptism! I am so grateful for our Elders that are so patient and kind and for teaching him so well! I keep thinking, “Oh my goodness what a miracle!” BUT I came to realize that there are no such things as miracles.. Witnessing a ‘miracle’ is really just realizing the Lord’s hand in your own life and the lives of others. The Lord is aware of all of us and plays a huge roll in all that we do. If we take the time we can see the Lord’s hand in our lives EVERYDAY!
Funny joke my brother Brenner sent me that made me literally laugh out loud, mostly because HE is just hilarious… >>> A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bar tender says “I’ll serve you but don’t start anything.”
THIS WEEK WAS OFF THE WALL. Really! So many great things! We saw the Lord’s hand every day!
Thursday night we were out with Sister Powers and we were walking up to the door of a less active member’s house when a man across the street randomly opened his door, looked out, then shut it. I said, “That was interesting.. Maybe we should go knock?” So we went across the street and knocked. They were coming to the door when Sister Powers whispered, “Quick! Lets sing!” They answered the door and Sister Powers started singing Silent Night and we quickly followed. They gathered their whole family (which was literally 15 people) to hear the 3 of us sing. Most of them started swaying and some of them mouthed the words as we sang. After we finished they applauded, and then Sister Powers played a Christmas video for them on her phone. They let us in and after the video was finished we testified of The Plan of Salvation and shared the Book of Mormon with them. They told us that the father was a preacher but that they would look into the Book of Mormon. We all held hands in a circle and I said a prayer, then we went across the street to our appointment. We were talking with the less active we were visiting and asking about her neighbors, when she told us that they just had a death in their family. Sister Peterson’s testimony about the PoS was inspired! Sister Powers was inspired to carole. All of us worked together to do a little good 🙂 It was quite the adventure. I love those sporadic missionary moments.
Friday we had a return appointment with a potential named Maxine and when we went she was on her way out and had to rescheduled. We decided to knock 5 doors before we left. The second door we knocked we met a woman named Evelin, who had a very thick Spanish accent. She is from Honduras and just moved into that house in the beginning of December. We asked if we could invite her to the English class that we hold at the church and teach her a message about Jesus Christ. She let us in and we taught her the Restoration. She is working on her English and so we had to talk very simply, but she was able to understand. She told us that earlier that day she had been weeping and asking God to give her a message about Jesus that would uplift her in her hard circumstance. She was going through some video’s of Christ when we knocked at her door. She realized the Lord’s hand in her life and that He sent us to her to share our message. She said that although it was a little hard for her to understand EVERYTHING that we were trying to say, she knew that it was true because of the light in our eyes. She said that by the way we were talking to her, by the way we were smiling, and by the way we looked when testifying, that she knew it was true. She said she felt uplifted and happy and wanted us to come back.
Remember that apartment complex that we kept finding investigators in? Well we found more! One of our investigators Tasha wasn’t home for the appointment we had set up, so we knocked on her neighbor’s door and me Phara! Phara is engaged to John and they have a 3 year old son that is adorable! We taught them the Plan of Salvation and they were really listening and had a lot of great questions. Phara has MS so we are introducing her to a member that has MS as well tonight. They are both so sweet and humble and Sister Peterson and I both think they will be baptized 🙂
I LOVE the Gospel. I know that it is true. I know that the Gospel can make us happier than anything else on this earth. I know Heavenly Father loves you. I know that Jesus Christ came to this earth, and suffered for us. I believe that in the Garden of Gethsemane, He didn’t just go through a check list of problems and pains, He went through a check list of people, and that He took a moment to suffer for YOU.
I love you! Have an amazing week and remember our loving Heavenly Father and Savior!
